Being Strict With Food Can Be a Blessing and Also a Serious Annoyance

Oftentimes, I get caught up in needing to eat perfectly according to an anti-viral, anti-bacterial protocol, since it’s helped me so much in the past two and a half years. Since I’ve begun my healing journey, I’ve been good about following certain “rules” which wasn’t easy, but paid off big time! Sometimes I’d get frustrated at how hard it is to keep it up especially when traveling and being away from home. I just got back from spending over a week away from home and I ate what I don’t normally eat (ex: vinegar, grains, more oil, non organic foods, foods with citric acid, sugar, etc). Some fear from the past set in. I’ll say, when you have a history of being unwell for so long, as I’m sure many of you can relate to, you can fall into unfortunate habits like feeling fearful of experiences or foods that have badly triggered your illness in the past. Once you truly heal, those old habits inevitably creep back in. They make no rational sense, but you might believe that you’ll slide back into sickness if you eat foods you used to eat that didn’t serve you at all.

Through the emotional side of healing, I’ve found that surrendering to hard-to-control circumstances (like eating perfectly while traveling) can actually be a benefit in the long run. *I say this warily because I know doing that it’s NOT easy at all!* This “letting loose” habit won’t be your norm, of course, but proving to yourself that you’re not unwell like you used to be is empowering. It can release built up anxiety around it all. It’s likely you’ll prove to yourself that you’re much stronger than you thought you were.

And if you feel too uncomfortable or find that you are triggered and feel worse the next day, that’s alright. Taking those baby steps out of your comfort zone is important. Sometimes you’ll retreat back  and other times you’ll find that right outside your comfort zone is getting you closer to a more confident you!

If you need coaching around this, I’d love nothing more than to assist you. Sometimes we live in our heads and don’t realize how impactful a health coach could be during times like these. Your trained habits from the past are hard to break out of but it’s entirely possible to live the flexible life you’ve always hoped for while still healing.
